This Absolutely Ruined My Strength Workout

This morning the weather was perfect for a walk around the block with the doggos, so off I went. We’ve been under a heat advisory for a week, so this was a real treat for all three of us. We didn’t even break a sweat … It was super nice!

Around noon I began my three-times-a-week strength session and after some curls and side stepping, triceps work and squats I got to my seated leg lifts and felt like I was totally low on gas! I kept going and made it through all of my sets and reps but gave up my plank just short of two minutes. What was going on?

I began to wonder what had changed and realized that I’d been hyper-focused on some graphic arts projects the last few nights, along with a proposal a colleague was expecting, and the work I needed to do for my new certification training.

In other words, I’ve been burning the candle at both ends. I’ve been working until midnight, then going about letting the dogs out and setting up the kitchen for the next morning and landing in bed around 12:30 or 1AM. Wide awake.

That’s not a problem if I sleep in, but I wake up with the light, so I’m already waking up by 6AM, and letting the dogs out by 6:15. At 72-years-old, I am not wired for 5-hour nights, and neither are my muscle fibers!
