February Love | Episode 6
The Synchronicity of Rightness
Keeley’s Day 6 challenge is to write about the most romantic gift I’ve received.
My Name is Nancy Jo.
It’s not like anyone called me by my first and middle names. Oh, maybe my mom did when I’d stepped outside the lines of acceptable behavior that she’d drawn. And, even though my dad named me that in the hopes that I would be called Jo, even he never used my middle name.
But there it sat, between first and last, two letters, quite lovely when handwritten, fairly ignored.
I began creating visual art in the 70s when I fell in love with contour lines and watercolor. By that time my initials had changed and I didn’t like the way I wrote the N in Nancy, so my paintings were signed, n.jo. It quickly became njo.
The logo for my graphic arts business, created by my dad, was n.jo.
When I became a supervisor in the Creative Services department at the pharmaceutical company I initialed everything with njo.
In 1989 I met my future husband, the cowboy. His name was Jim Oglesby. In 1990 he proposed. Feel free to read the dramatic story of his proposal … or was it my response … or his response to my response?
