The Sickest I’ve Ever Been

Smallpox? Typhoid? The common cold?

I’m thinking it must have been when I said I’d do this 31-day challenge! I mean, seriously, who does that to themselves in January? It might have been the most laughable resolution I’ve ever made. (Time will tell.) I might have gotten the drunkest I’ve ever gotten when I realized what I’d gotten myself into, but in order to avoid the most awkward situation I decided to keep on, and here I am, the sickest I’ve ever been … mentally that is.

This is a hard one. At 73 I’m a long way from my childhood ailments. Rumor has it I got smallpox from the smallpox vaccine and had typhoid from something I encountered in the lake I grew up on. I had my share of bronchitis until the last decade or two.

I haven’t yet tested positive for COVID, so I’m guessing if I had it, I was asymptomatic. I am double boosted, so it’s possible I never got it but a bit unrealistic since I work at a restaurant three days a week.

I had pneumonia thirty years ago, but my primary complaint was exhaustion. Of course, I’ve suffered my share of the common cold, and had a few viruses, but sickness? I’d have to say one of the bouts of bronchitis probably had me feeling my worst.
