I moved from the Chicago Metro to the Kansas City Metro in 2006. It’s not saying much, but it was barely a step up in the sports arena. I was born a diehard Cubs fan, it was genetic. They hadn’t won a World Series since 1908, 98 years. The Royals had only won one World Series 21 years prior.

The Royals smelled worse than the Cubs but only because they hadn’t completely decomposed. There was still flesh on their bones but the Cubs had turned to dust.

The Cubs often came out strong, only to fizzle midway through the season. The Royals did the same, strong start, fizzzzzzzz.

And then, they didn’t.

As the 2015 season unfolded both teams were leading their division, then they both won their division … my heart was in my throat! Could this be a World Series in which I loved both teams? Noooooooooooooo!!! I would lose no matter who won because they both deserved it, and I’d grown fond of both. (I’m hoping my mom can’t read this from the great beyond or she’d slap me upside the head for even thinking the Royals worthy.)
