The Easiest Ever, Teensiest, Tiniest Habit to Sleep Like a Baby

It’s easy. So easy that it seems a bit weird to dedicate an entire article to it. Sleep has been getting a lot of press and yet people still have trouble so, let’s give a teensy, tiny habit a try.

There is no dearth of articles giving pointers on how to get a good night’s sleep. Here’s a brief recap of the most common ideas:

· Lighting: Increase daylight to balance your circadian rhythm and decrease blue light exposure at night. Enjoy the sun during the day but dim the lights, put away electronics and turn off the television a couple of hours before bed.

· Get in some movement during the day. A tired body is a body that is tired. (Duh!)

· Be consistent: Changing up your bedtime can totally mess with your body’s ability to rest. Try to choose times that work with your schedule and stay as close as possible regardless of your day. Also, avoid naps.

· Eating and drinking: Avoid caffeine in the afternoons and evenings, reduce/eliminate alcohol, and quit eating about three hours prior to your bedtime. You don’t need your digestive system working overtime while you sleep.

· Temperature: Cool bedrooms are the way to go. Warmer bedroom temperatures decrease sleep quality. If it’s winter and safe, crack a window. In the…
