Smelt fishing was HUGE in the town I lived on. It was on the shore of Lake Michigan and the smelt fishers would go crazy! I think I might have tasted it, but it was deep fried by someone else and no eyes were in evidence. Ewww. Fish eyes turn me off! Whole snapper at a restaurant? nope!
