My sister and I play against each other every morning. We use the same starting word, SLATE, which NYT determined was the most successful starting word. (There was an article about it.) I'm curious as to why STALE isn't just as good, but ... such is life.

We've only lost when there are far too many options, like S_A_E ... UGH!
