How generous were my ancestors in handing down genes? Magnanimous!

  1. My paternal grandfather and only uncle died of heart attacks in their mid-fifties. Had today’s blood tests been available we would have learned that they had LDL and triglyceride numbers high enough to put Elon Musk’s bank account to shame.
  2. My father suffered from asthma as a kid. When he contracted, and almost died, from Scarlet Fever, his asthma disappeared and never returned.
  3. My mom suffered from uncontrollable hypertension, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, undiagnosed fibromyalgia, and no doubt, lichen sclerosis.

Lucky me, I got it all!

I visited physicians for years with a multitude of aches and pains. Nothing was found to be wrong; no sprains, breaks, or contusions. I was labeled a hypochondriac. Thirty years ago, my sister received a diagnosis, and when she shared the array of symptoms I had my answer: Fibromyalgia. I was formally diagnosed about a year later.
