I am old and financially secure today, and also aware that my security is a privilege. (In so many ways, being able to save was due to white privilege and a bookkeeper mother.) I’ve never written anything about depending on Medium for income, but my advice would be that one can’t depend on something that fluctuates with a wind whose direction we can’t see.

It’s like we’re in an abusive relationship, just when everyone is happy, the bully pulls the rug out from under us. If the powers that be would simply share the formulas, writers would be able to decide their commitment with an idea of how much they will earn. The current system (is there a system?) is ridiculous.
