Have You Completed Step One?

Keeley’s prompt for today is, the last email in your junk folder and how you feel about it.

I thought for sure it would be an email for enlarging my penis or another delivery gone astray, but nope, the last email in my spam folder asked if I’d completed Step One.

I’ve spent a lifetime surrounded by alcoholics both in and out of recovery, so my first thought was, Step One? Isn’t that something about admitting you’re powerless? Hmmm … Are there spies among us?

As someone who didn’t drink until somewhere around the age of 55 or 56, I wouldn’t think so, but …?

Does my hard seltzer twelve evenings in a row constitute powerlessness? They come in 12-packs and when I get around to buying one, I usually drink one a night. I might go a few weeks between buying them though.

Sometimes I buy a bottle of red wine and make a wine spritzer each evening, or I’ll buy a 12-pack of Corona Premier and have one at night or after working in the garden.

I might go for weeks without having alcohol at all.

So, the spy wasn’t talking about alcohol. No drugs laying around.
