Bring Back the Good Old Days … Not!

The good old days were never that good if you were a woman with a brain. It was hard to be a stay-at-home mom when there weren’t any work-from-home opportunities. Well, there were those in the back of the ‘women’s’ magazines that read: Make Hundreds of Dollars Stuffing Envelopes!

We loved our kids, but seriously, 24/7 with a two-year-old and daytime television? Please. So, we had coffee klatches and they were what kept us sane.

I would go over to Kathy’s with my baby, diapers, bottles, rattles, teething rings, and receiving blankets (do they still call them that?) every morning around 9:30. We’d sit at the kitchen table, smoking and drinking cup after cup of coffee. (It was the late 60’s, smoking was cool.)

Some days we’d lose track of the time, and it would be 2:30 in the afternoon before we realized it. Yikes! Hubby came home around 3:00 so we’d rush around and pick up what mess we could, I’d pack up and off I’d go to cook dinner at home.

Whatever did we talk about all of that time? Remember that Phil Donohue and Oprah weren’t contributing to our personal growth yet, and the internet might not have even been an idea yet. That left us to try to navigate being young moms, and wives to a couple of young guys, at a time when the world was…
