As Denée pointed out, editing often leaves me without enough time to read outside of fiction shorts. I do try to keep up with my email subscriptions, but I’m not always good at that either. I often want to comment on someone’s story that I’m editing, but I’m scheduling it for a different time and it’s not available to comment on, or there are so many stories to get through that I don’t have time to leave a comment then in there. Me remembering to go back is unlikely. Someone said in the comments here that they don’t always have much to say other than I love what you wrote. That gets a bit redundant, but I do like the green heart idea. I often leave a yellow heart when the story is touching.
It is a complicated thing. I like to remember that people get paid for me highlighting something and reading it, so if I don’t have time to leave a comment, I at least try to do those things.
Like you, I appreciate every comment and there are days when the time is available for me to go through some of my comments and return the favor by reading and engaging with others stories. The craziness of fiction shorts has done much to curtail my reading and writing time. I have no idea how to balance that.
