Announcing My Substack Publications Eggs, Baskets…
Why put them all in one place?
--
First and foremost, I have no intention of leaving Medium, but wisdom tells me it’s time to put a few eggs in another basket.
I’d love for you to subscribe, poke around, and if you have a Substack account, let me know and I’ll reciprocate by subscribing to yours, sharing some of your work, and building a little community there.
I’ve had a Substack account for a while but didn’t take the time to bother with it. But, Medium keeps messing us about.
In August of 2023 on Medium, I made nearly five times my July 2023 earnings, and I thought they’d finally figured out how to recognize all of their writers. At the end of September, earnings began to tank, and I was back to pre-August levels.
January 2024 came around and things swung back to August levels and had remained so until a point this July when they tanked, then bounced back. We can’t understand the swings because Medium doesn’t share enough data.
In February or March of this year, Medium swept up thousands of its writers in a spam roundup suspending them for ‘rules violations’ without any specificity regarding which rules they might have violated. After much angst, and bemoaning, most of them were reinstated… might I add, without apology.
Now, this month, another sweep collected more writers, revoked their Paid Partnership, unlocked their stories, and told them this action was final… FINAL!! Again, most of them have been returned to us, safe, if not fully unharmed emotionally. Two of them were editors for Fiction Shorts, and the others were some of my favorite authors.
A vague response, and again no specificity, was their reinstatement email.
This time it seems to have been a wakeup call to many of Medium’s timeworn authors. Many of us had been exploring Substack and some had already moved there.
So, I decided to drop a few eggs in the Substack basket as I learn to navigate their platform. Initially, I’ll be sharing the daily random word challenges, and if you are of a mind, publish one or more of yours over there, link back to mine, and in my next random word post, I’ll share what you’ve done.
I’d love for you to subscribe. We can grow and learn together. I have two newsletters/publications there:
Fiction Shorts and Nancy Oglesby Wellness.
Subscribe to one, or both if you’ve a mind. Much appreciated!
In the meantime, keep creating and inspiring!
Bless.
Tagging a few of the brilliant writers I’ve connected with. If you’d like to be added, hit me up.
