The weekend is a good time to put together a guide for the upcoming week. I like to think of it as a guide because to me the word ‘plan’ seems more rigid. (And, anyone who knows me knows that wouldn’t work. 😊) Using the word guide immediately brings to mind flexibility. For example, I use my weekly meal guide to fill out the main course of each night’s dinner. I allow for flexibility when it comes to sides. I know I’m going to have a veggie and salad, but don’t feel the need to write in which one on a given day.
Often, when people decide to make a healthy change, like eating an apple a day or a daily salad, they fail to compute the necessary ingredients. An apple a day means you need to buy seven apples. A salad a day requires the ingredients for seven days of salads. It makes sense, but in my experience, people rarely figure out how many heads/bags of lettuce, peppers, radishes, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. that they’ll need for seven salads. Will you add toppings like sunflower seeds, roasted chickpeas, or blueberries? How much of that do you have on hand?
