A dear friend, a Vietnam vet, an 18 year old boy who went to war and became a tunnel rat. He came back and was never the same. His self-appointed punishment was drugs.
I sat with him 20 years after his return as he detoxed and poured out the horrors of his experience.
After that he found it hard to face me, and I know it was because he held so much guilt over his role in the deaths of others. He died of pancreatic cancer, a condition proven to have been caused by the chemicals used in Vietnam. Of course, the government denied it.
How many lives do we have to lose to greed?
Poignant story, Harry. Well done.
